J’ai été très gentiment contacté récemment par un consortium international aux multiples portefeuilles pour une exposition de groupe dans un palais vénitien.
Un mélange de prestige et la proximité de la Biennale d’art sont en quelque sorte le cheval de bataille des organisateurs pour inciter des artistes de tous poils à participer à cette exposition.
Il me semble intéressant de reporter ici cet échange de mails que j’ai eu avec le manager-organisateur.
Cet échange a eu lieu d’abord en anglais (nous avons tous remarqué qu’il est de bon ton d’utiliser l’anglais passe-partout comme s’il fallait crédibiliser le cérémonial lié aux affres de l’art international) et dans la langue du pays ensuite puisque le manager-organisateur était italien.
A ma question portant sur les modalités de participation et sur les critères de sélection voici ce qui m’a été répondu :

There is a participation fee related to the number and dimensions of the artworks selected; so if you will send me all the details of the works you want to participate with, I will be more than glad to set up the best entry fee for you!
The participation includes the following services
– exhibition space dedicated to the artist’s works
– assisting with customs formalities, international shipping and local transport
– assisting in finding accommodation for artist
– the design and the printing of invitation cards, posters
– the global and local press office, publicity, press, banners, totem, etc.
– the realization of the exhibition website and dedicated press releases
– mounting and dismounting of the exhibition
– exhibitions opening event with drinks and food
– a one day dedicated presentation, talk or workshop focusing on the artist’s career
– a dedicated interview published on xxxx website and spread on our social networks
– providing services and drinks for small meetings at the exhibition places for invited guests
Artists are responsible for the shipment of their works.
If an artwork is sold, we do not get commissions; we just give the artist’s direct contact, so that the artist can personally deal with the potential client.
All artists, architects and designers interested in taking part in our shows are free to be sponsored and supported by institutions, organizations, private sponsors and their delegates; the logos of their sponsors will be included in all the communication (digital and printed) of the events. Infatti, il Direttore C. le ha dedicato una quota di partecipazione speciale di 1700 euro invece di 2400 euro più tasse, che dipendono dal metodo di pagamento che deciderà di utilizzare (con Paypal è di 1789,60 euro, con Bank Transfer la quota è di 1785,00 euro).

Merci de votre réponse. A dire vrai, je suis assez surpris par le montant de la participation, et je ne comprends pas pourquoi celui-ci est si élevé.
Il est bien dommage que votre sélection se base en fin de compte sur l’argent, favorisant ainsi les personnes ayant une situation économiquement confortable, plutôt que de favoriser la qualité des œuvres. Mais peut-être me trompai-je…
